Kids Experiments - Testing for Protein
1 step: Take a piece of meat or some beans, mash it with a mortar & pestle, and add a little water to make a suspension.
2nd Step: Take a little of this suspension in a test tube.
3rd Step: Add a few drops of Copper Sulphate solution to it.
4th Step: Very carefully add a few drops of Sodium hydroxide solution.
Observe
If the solution becomes purple, it shows the presence of protein.
(warning : Handle with care as sodium hydroxide is corrosive.)
